Thornhold, or Stoneshaft Hold, is a formidable fortress perched on the southern edge of the eerie Mere of Dead Men. Its stone walls are weathered and covered in creeping vines, while the surrounding marshland is filled with the sounds of distant, mournful wails. The fortress has changed hands several times with three distinct parties claiming overship over it. Currently the dwarf clan, Clan Stoneshaft occupy the fortress. The earliest known recorn is that of Brunyundar Margaster, a local warlord of the Waterdhavian Margaster family holding ownership of it. The family is now a noble family still residing in Waterdeep. The last party to have claim to it is the Knights of Samular a holy order dedicated to the service of Tyr. Currently the dwarfs allow the fortress to be a rest area and stop of merchants and adventures offer services such as gem-cutters, brewers, wagon repair and selling, and lastly a dwarven smith. The current leader of Clan Stoneshaft is unknown.
