Castle Volkihar is a massive, ancient fortress situated on a remote island off the northwestern coast of Skyrim, near Solitude. Accessible only by boat, the castle is the ancestral seat of the Volkihar vampire clan, led by Lord Harkon. Its towering spires, crumbling stone walls, and eerie, mist-laden surroundings exude a foreboding atmosphere. Within its walls, the castle houses grand halls, a cathedral-like dining area, and hidden chambers filled with dark secrets. The architecture reflects a blend of Nordic and vampiric influences, with intricate carvings and blood-red banners adorning the interiors. Castle Volkihar plays a central role in the Dawnguard expansion, serving as the primary base for the Volkihar vampire faction and a pivotal location in the conflict between vampires and the Dawnguard.​
