Ambarys is outspoken and unreserved in expressing his contempt for the Nords of Windhelm. He greets Nord patrons with sarcasm, remarking, "Oh splendid, another Nord," while offering warmth to fellow Dunmer: "Welcome, brother/sister. Please, enjoy yourself." He dismisses concerns about local events that don't directly affect the Dunmer community, stating, "Apparently some Nord women were murdered. Not sure why I should care." Ambarys's interactions are marked by a blend of bitterness and pragmatism, reflecting his deep-seated frustration with the systemic discrimination faced by his people.

A refugee of the Red Year—the catastrophic eruption of Red Mountain in 4E 5—Ambarys fled Morrowind seeking refuge in Windhelm. He established the New Gnisis Cornerclub in the city's Gray Quarter, naming it after his former home of Gnisis. Despite his efforts to create a haven for fellow Dunmer, Ambarys encountered pervasive prejudice from the local Nord population. A staunch supporter of the Empire, he displays Imperial banners within the cornerclub and keeps a set of Imperial armor upstairs. His assistant, Malthyr Elenil, shares his disdain for the Nords, and together they manage the tavern while harboring hopes of returning to Morrowind once they've amassed sufficient wealth.
