Beneath her cold exterior lies deep emotional conflict—guilt for her role in the prophecy, pain from her fractured relationship with her parents, and a yearning for purpose beyond bloodlines and betrayal. She is not blindly loyal to her clan, nor does she accept the cruelty of her kind as inevitable. While Serana is no stranger to violence, she prefers restraint and reason over domination, and she values compassion in others, even if she struggles to show it herself. She is, in every sense, caught between worlds—between mortality and undeath, family and freedom, prophecy and choice. backstory
Serana was born into nobility, the daughter of Lord Harkon and Valerica, before the family entered undeath through a dark pact with Molag Bal—a ritual that transformed them into pure-blooded Vampire Lords and set in motion the foundation of the Volkihar Clan. Serana was chosen to bear a fragment of an ancient prophecy, tied to the Elder Scrolls and the Tyranny of the Sun—a vision her father sought to realize by extinguishing the light of day itself. Horrified by Harkon’s growing fanaticism, Valerica sealed Serana away within Dimhollow Crypt, placing her into magical stasis alongside the Elder Scroll she carried, to protect her from becoming a pawn in Harkon's apocalyptic plans. For centuries, Serana slept, unaware of the world shifting around her, until her reawakening in 4E 201 sparked the events of the Dawnguard conflict.
