Caer Darrow is an island and ruined fortress on Darrowmere Lake in the Western Plaguelands. Before the Third War, Kel'Thuzad struck a deal with the Barov family, turning the catacombs beneath the keep into Scholomance, a necromantic school and base for the Cult of the Damned. Once a grand place, it became a hub for dark magic. During the Second War, the Horde invaded, sacked the keep, and took a sacred runestone, later used to empower ogres via the Altars of Storms. Uther the Lightbringer visited the isle on a mercy mission but was ambushed by Alterac pirates; captured sailors later exposed Alterac’s betrayal. The Barovs restored the manor post-war and lived in wealth until they allied with Kel'Thuzad to gain immortality. Scholomance grew darker, using servants for plague experiments. A unique plague wiped out the island before Uther’s visit. Today, spirits haunt Caer Darrow, trapped in their final moments. Weldon Barov holds the deed; Putridius guards Scholomance.
