Mistmeadow

History

Mistmeadow began as a handful of homesteads on the sheltered edge of the Mist Woods — a practical stopping place where hunters, foragers, and riverfolk met to trade hides, grain, and gossip. Over generations it grew into a tight-knit village of a few hundred souls. The settlement’s longevity is owed as much to its cautious respect for the woods as to its fertile location: villagers learned early to live beside the forest rather than conquer it.

Though never a seat of power, Mistmeadow has been witness to echoes of larger ages. Travelers sometimes find carved stones and fragments of old masonry that hint at the Eldergrove civilization deeper in the woods (@Eldergrove Ruins). Those relics are treated with a mixture of curiosity and caution — reminders that the forest keeps its own history, and that humility has long been Mistmeadow’s best defense.

Notable Locations

@Glistening Grove Tavern

Warm, welcoming, and the village’s social heart. Run by @Flora Windwhisper, the inn is where rumors start, fares are paid, and quests are agreed over stew and ale. Rooms for hire, common table full of local faces, and a small stage for songs and tales.

@The Mistmeadow Store

The only shop in town — modest but well-stocked for village life. The owner, @Bramble Tinkerspark, keeps small trinkets and a few practical curiosities that travelers sometimes need. A good place to hear what’s happening in the village.

@Mistmeadow Central Square

Market nights, minor festivals, and the occasional public announcement happen here. The square faces the edge of the woods; at certain times, the air feels charged and the mist rolls thicker into the streets.

@Abandoned Cottage

A single-story house on the village fringe left empty years ago. Windows boarded, a fence fallen, the interior full of dust and echoes. Villagers avoid it at night. Children dare each other to peek in. Perfect for secrets — or a place someone is hiding in plain sight.

@Ancient Stone Circle

An old ring of weathered stones in a clearing just outside town. Runes shimmer faintly under moonlight. On rare nights the circle glows, warm golden motes dance, and soft chanting seems to come from nowhere. Locals regard it as a blessing and a place to leave offerings for the health of crops and livestock.
