Off the northern coast of Glenumbra, past the windswept cliffs near Eagle’s Brook and Camlorn, lies Balefire Island—a jagged, storm-battered outcrop wreathed in sea mist and old superstition. Its name comes from the eerie green flames once seen flickering atop its highest ridge, said to burn without fuel and ward away Daedra during the darkest days of the Planemeld. The lighthouse that once stood there now lies in ruin, its beacon shattered and blackened by lightning. Few dare to land on the island today. The waters around it churn unnaturally, and compasses are known to falter near its shores. Crumbling ruins, half-swallowed by moss and tide, hint at Breton or Direnni origins, though no records remain. Fishermen whisper of lights still dancing across the cliffs at night, and strange carvings in the rock that shift when viewed from different angles. Whether cursed, protected, or simply forgotten, Balefire Island endures—aloof, untamed, and forever watching the mainland.
