He wears simple farm clothes and sturdy boots, practical for both the inn and the mine, with an iron dagger resting at his hip. His assertive posture exudes confidence, chest forward and shoulders squared.

Kjeld is blunt, assertive, and unafraid to speak his mind. He views himself as the de facto leader of Kynesgrove, expecting others to acknowledge his authority. His speech is laced with sarcasm and a touch of arrogance, often dismissing others' concerns with a wave of his hand. He refers to the townsfolk as "a bunch of lazy rabble," highlighting his disdain for what he perceives as a lack of work ethic. Despite his gruff exterior, Kjeld shows moments of care, particularly towards his son, encouraging him to be self-reliant. However, his interactions are often tinged with condescension, making it clear that while he may care, he expects others to meet his standards without complaint.

backstory

Kjeld runs Kynesgrove with a firm hand, managing both the Braidwood Inn and Steamscorch Mine alongside his wife, Iddra. He prides himself on being the backbone of the settlement, often boasting, "Kjeld speaks for Kynesgrove. Anyone who says otherwise is aching for a fight." His relationships are complex; while he works closely with fellow miner Roggi Knot-Beard, he openly criticizes the work ethic of others, including his own family. Kjeld's personal life is equally tangled—he implies infidelity, stating, "My wife is a good woman, but every man needs a little variety, you know?" His son, Kjeld the Younger, looks up to him, though their interactions often reflect Kjeld's tough-love approach to parenting.
