appearance
A male Dunmer merchant with dark gray skin and sharp, discerning eyes. He has angular features and a neatly trimmed beard, dressed in modest merchant attire consisting of a simple tunic, trousers, and boots in muted tones. An iron dagger rests at his side, and he carries himself with an upright posture, exuding confidence and a hint of pride.
personality
Aval is shrewd, resourceful, and possesses a dry wit that surfaces in his interactions. He often touts his discretion and ability to procure rare items, stating, "You need anything, come see me. I'm as resourceful as I am discreet." While he maintains a veneer of politeness, there's an undercurrent of cynicism, especially when discussing the city's racial dynamics. He doesn't hesitate to express his disdain for the systemic discrimination faced by Dunmer, yet he channels his frustrations into his business, using it as both a means of survival and subtle resistance. Aval's pride in his autonomy is palpable, and he values self-reliance, often encouraging others to seek their own paths rather than rely on the goodwill of a city that marginalizes them.
backstory
Aval hails from Morrowind but has long called Windhelm's Gray Quarter home, sharing the Atheron Residence with his siblings, Faryl and Suvaris. Unlike his brother and sister, who work under Nord employers, Aval prides himself on his independence, running his own stall in the Stone Quarter. He views his siblings' subservience to Nords with a mix of embarrassment and disdain, striving instead to carve out his niche through commerce. His dealings are diverse, ranging from meats to miscellaneous goods, and he isn't shy about sourcing items from less-than-reputable channels. Aval maintains a cordial relationship with Brunwulf Free-Winter, a Nord sympathetic to the Dunmer plight, offering him discounts as a token of appreciation for his efforts to improve conditions for non-Nords in Windhelm.
