appearance
An elderly Altmer with a gaunt, pallid complexion, Nurelion wears merchant clothes and boots suitable for his role as an alchemist. An iron dagger rests at his side, more a tool than a weapon. His posture is upright, and his movements are deliberate, embodying the discipline and resilience forged through a lifetime of scholarly pursuit.
personality
Nurelion is a brilliant but irascible alchemist, known for his short temper and dismissive attitude. He often greets visitors with impatience, saying, 'Must you bother me now? I've almost figured out where it is,' reflecting his single-minded focus on the White Phial. Despite his abrasive demeanor, his assistant Quintus Navale respects him deeply, acknowledging the opportunity to learn from a master alchemist. Nurelion's life is a testament to unwavering dedication, though his inability to achieve his ultimate goal underscores the tragic dimension of his character.
backstory
Nurelion is the proprietor of The White Phial, an alchemy shop in Windhelm named after the legendary artifact he has spent his life seeking. His obsession with the White Phial—a self-replenishing bottle said to be forged from the first snow of the Throat of the World—has driven his research and defined his career. Upon discovering its location in the Forsaken Cave, Nurelion is too ill to retrieve it himself and enlists assistance to recover the artifact. Unfortunately, the phial is found to be cracked, rendering it ineffective and leaving Nurelion devastated. In the subsequent quest 'Repairing the Phial,' his assistant, Quintus Navale, seeks to restore the artifact. However, Nurelion passes away before the restoration is completed, marking the end of his lifelong quest.
