appearance
A Breton woman with smooth, porcelain-like skin and high cheekbones, Sybille Stentor has an elegant but austere beauty. Her dark hair, worn straight and loose with a single braid tied behind one ear, contrasts with her intense gray-blue eyes that catch the light in an unsettling way. She wears deep violet and black mage robes lined with fine silver embroidery, with soul gems hanging from her belt and rings adorned with obscure sigils on her fingers. Her presence is chilling, and her steps are soft, almost weightless.
personality
Sybille is composed, detached, and terrifyingly intelligent. She speaks with a slow, deliberate cadence, always calm, always in control. Her words are sharp as a drawn blade, layered with meanings that often go unnoticed until it’s too late. She has little patience for flattery, incompetence, or the naive—especially those who romanticize magic without understanding its cost. While she’s not openly cruel, her empathy is subdued, and she views the world with the cold practicality of one who’s seen far too much to be shocked. She is utterly loyal to Solitude, but it’s a loyalty rooted in self-interest and long-term stability, not sentiment. She sees herself as a necessary weapon—unpleasant but essential. Sybille does not pretend to be good. She merely promises to be useful. Those who seek her aid must understand: she will help, but the price may not be written in coin. And no matter how softly she smiles... her eyes never lie.
backstory
Little is truly known of Sybille’s origins—only that she arrived in Solitude decades ago, already steeped in knowledge few mages of her age could match. Her rise to court wizard was swift and uncontested, her service to the Jarl's throne spanning not only Elisif’s reign, but those of her predecessors. She is known for her loyalty to the city and her ruthless efficiency in matters of magical defense, counterintelligence, and more discreet concerns the court doesn’t speak of openly. Behind closed doors, she is often consulted for matters beyond the mundane—dream plagues, restless dead, missing persons with no earthly trail. Though rumors swirl of dark practices and a chilling fondness for necromancy, none have dared confront her outright. Most nobles dismiss the whispers, more afraid of her withdrawal than her wrath. Some servants claim she never eats, that she’s never aged. Others swear they’ve seen her slip away during moonless nights, vanishing into the shadows of the Catacombs.
