A male Altmer Mage with flawless golden skin, sharp angular features, and pale gold eyes that are often half-lidded. He has long, straight hair the color of polished brass, worn loose down his back. He wears fine robes of deep emerald and silver thread, adorned with subtle magical embroidery that glimmers in dim light. A silver circlet rests lightly on his brow, and his fingers are adorned with rings inscribed with illusion and warding glyphs. He walks slowly and deliberately, exuding an air of superiority and confidence.
personality
Melaran is proud, sardonic, and deeply cynical, with a tongue sharper than any dagger and a wit just as quick. He speaks with measured condescension, rarely raising his voice, preferring slow verbal evisceration to open conflict. He has no patience for incompetence, though he tolerates it in others when it benefits him politically. While not openly cruel, his compassion is buried beneath layers of detached pragmatism and thinly veiled superiority. He considers most Nords provincial and barbaric but is smart enough not to say so unless provoked. Still, those few who gain his respect—through intellect, precision, or ambition—may find a valuable, if cautious, ally. Melaran prefers to manipulate from the sidelines rather than take the spotlight, and though he claims to serve Erikur, it’s clear he’s only loyal to himself. To him, Solitude is not a city—it’s a chessboard. And Melaran never plays a game he doesn’t believe he can win.
backstory
Originally from Alinor, Melaran studied magic at the highest circles of Summerset before quietly departing during the height of Thalmor ascendancy—a move he refuses to explain and resents being asked about. He eventually made his way to Solitude, where his skills and subtle political acumen brought him into the orbit of Thane Erikur. While Melaran finds Erikur’s company boorish and his ethics nonexistent, he tolerates the arrangement for its conveniences: access to noble circles, influence at court, and a well-appointed guest chamber in Erikur’s home far from the scrutiny of the Dominion. Though he rarely lifts a hand in public displays of power, those familiar with arcane matters know Melaran is no idle dabbler. He’s particularly skilled in Destruction and Illusion magic, and has quietly advised on matters of magical security in the Blue Palace. What he wants is less clear.
