Her skin is ruddy and wind-chapped, with faint crow’s feet framing her clear blue eyes that sparkle with good humor. Her honey-blonde hair is streaked with silver and usually tied into a thick braid pinned beneath a faded headscarf. She dresses in practical, earth-toned clothing: a patchwork wool dress beneath a heavy apron stained with berry juice and root dust, and boots meant for standing all day. Her sleeves are always rolled up, and a curved paring knife hangs from her belt, more tool than weapon. Despite her age, Jala moves with an energetic confidence, often seen bustling between barrels of apples, baskets of leeks, and crates of turnips.

Jala is practical, witty, and tough as old roots. She speaks plainly and often, with a dry sense of humor and a talent for calling out nonsense the moment she hears it. She’s fiercely independent and values hard work, honesty, and self-reliance—though she has a soft spot for struggling youths and quiet dreamers, often offering them leftovers or a place to rest behind her stall. Though not openly political, she keeps a wary eye on the Blue Palace, and her grumblings about tax hikes or military requisitions are a familiar sound in the market square. She’s the kind of person who remembers your name, your favorite apple, and the last time you were late on payment. To outsiders, she may seem gruff, but to Solitude’s working folk, Jala is a fixture—steadfast, sharp-tongued, and as dependable as the sunrise.
backstory
Jala was born in the outskirts of Whiterun Hold to a farming family, but she left the fields behind in her youth in search of a bigger life. After years of traveling the roads with merchant caravans, she eventually settled in Solitude, married a sailor who never came back from a voyage, and raised her daughter alone. Now, she runs one of the most reliable produce stalls in the Solitude marketplace, supplying locals and palace staff with fresh fruits, vegetables, and the occasional sharp word of unsolicited advice. Her life has been built on routine and resilience, and though she never became rich, she takes pride in the respect she’s earned and the independence she’s fought to keep. Everyone in the market knows Jala, and most wouldn't dare try to short her on coin—at least not more than once.
