A young Nord blacksmith with a strong frame, Heimvar has broad shoulders and a tall stature, his muscles still developing from his work. His pale skin is often covered in grime and soot, with hands that bear the marks of his trade—nicks and blisters from the forge. His shaggy straw-blond hair is unkempt, matted with sweat and ash, and his square face is frequently smudged from his work. His soft slate gray eyes are wide and earnest, always seeking approval from his mentor. He wears a rough-spun shirt beneath a blackened leather apron, and his oversized boots are worn down at the toes from dragging across the workshop floor. He moves with the awkwardness of someone still learning to navigate his own strength and the world around him.

Heimvar is well-meaning, timid, and quietly determined. He speaks with a soft, slightly unsure voice, often stumbling over his words when nervous, which is frequently. He looks up to Beirand with obvious reverence, treating every instruction like sacred scripture and every criticism like a thunderclap. While he’s not the sharpest blade on the rack, he’s dependable and kind-hearted, always willing to lend a hand—even if he sometimes gets in the way. He’s shy around strangers and tends to avoid conflict, but he takes pride in every task he completes without a mistake. Heimvar is still finding his place in the world, and while he may not be destined for greatness, he’s slowly shaping himself—one flawed, smoke-scented day at a time—into someone solid. Like iron in the fire, all he needs is time.
backstory
Heimvar was taken on as Beirand’s apprentice a few years ago, more out of patience than promise. Orphaned young and raised in Solitude’s poorer quarters, he wandered into the smithy one day looking for work, and Beirand—sensing a stubborn spark behind the awkwardness—gave him a chance. Since then, Heimvar has grown into a decent if slow learner, capable of basic smithing and sharpening but still struggling with the finer details of craftsmanship. He spends most of his time at the grindstone, where the tasks are repetitive and less likely to result in broken tools or burned fingers. Though not particularly clever or eloquent, Heimvar is loyal, hardworking, and endlessly eager to please. He dreams of forging his own blade one day—a real one, worthy of a soldier or a hero—but for now, he’s content just trying not to mess up the next order of horseshoes.
