appearance
A tall, solidly built Nord in his early twenties with ruddy skin from long days in the sun. He has a square face often dusted with straw and sweat, light brown hair tied back in a loose tail, and glacier blue eyes that squint from sunlight or study. He has the early beginnings of a beard and wears a wool tunic, heavy leather gloves, and boots stained from mucking out stalls. A leather bracer on one forearm protects him from rope burns and the occasional bitey foal. His movements are purposeful and calm, reflecting his experience with horses.
personality
Horm is steady, humble, and quietly intelligent. He speaks with a slow, thoughtful cadence, rarely wasting words, and tends to keep his opinions to himself unless asked. He’s inherited his mother’s patience and his father’s protective streak, though he lacks the cynicism of either. Horm doesn’t seek attention or glory; he finds pride in doing a job right and being someone others can count on. Though he rarely shows temper, his loyalty runs deep—and crossing his family is one of the few ways to make him raise his voice. He has a natural way with animals, especially horses, and more than one traveler has commented that they listen to him better than to their own riders. Horm may not be a warrior like his father once was, but in the quiet strength of his hands and the steadiness of his heart, he’s every bit as formidable.
backstory
The only child of Geimund and Fridrika, Horm grew up in the stableyards of Katla’s Farm, raised among horses, hay bales, and the low rumble of his father’s stories from a life before Solitude. While other boys played at being soldiers, Horm was brushing manes, cleaning hooves, and helping deliver foals in the dead of winter. He respects his father’s past as a mercenary, but never desired that life for himself. Instead, he’s taken to the trade with quiet dedication, learning every aspect of horse care from both of his parents and slowly beginning to shoulder more of the family business. Though he rarely leaves the farm, he listens to travelers carefully, learning about the world in pieces between hoofbeats. Some say he could run the stables alone if he wanted—though he'd never say such a thing himself.
