A tall, broad-shouldered Nord in his late forties with rough, pale skin beneath a layer of rock dust. His hands are thick-fingered and scarred from years of handling pickaxes and hauling ore. His once-blond hair has faded to a straw color, thinning on top and tied loosely at the back. A short, scruffy beard covers his weathered face, lined from sun, stress, and smoke. His deep gray-blue eyes are steady and unwavering, sizing up everyone he meets. He dresses in heavy miner’s leathers, worn through at the elbows and knees, with a fur-lined cloak thrown over one shoulder. His belt holds a mining knife and a flask, the latter more often shared than emptied alone.

Ragnar is dependable, plainspoken, and quietly principled. He speaks with a slow, gravelly voice and rarely wastes words—he'd rather act than talk, and when he does talk, it’s usually to make a point. Though gruff, he’s not unfriendly—he’s the type who offers help without asking and expects the same in return. He has little patience for corruption or cruelty, and sees Ainethach’s resistance to the Silver-Bloods as a line worth standing behind, even if it costs them everything. He commands quiet respect among the miners, not because he demands it, but because he’s earned it. Ragnar doesn’t see himself as a leader, but when Ainethach isn’t around, it’s often Ragnar they listen to. At heart, he’s a simple man who’s chosen loyalty and honor over coin and politics—and in the Reach, that makes him a rare and dangerous thing: a good man who’s not afraid to fight.
backstory
Ragnar was born in the hills of Hjaalmarch, the son of a trapper, but found his calling in stone rather than snow. He drifted from mine to mine across the Reach before settling in Karthwasten, where he quickly proved himself dependable, skilled, and unshakably loyal. Ainethach recognized his steady hand and straightforward honesty, and over time, Ragnar became more than just a worker—he became the mine-owner’s right hand, enforcer, and trusted voice among the laborers. Though not a man of politics, Ragnar is fiercely protective of Ainethach, whom he considers one of the last decent men in a hold overrun by Silver-Blood arrogance and brute force. When trouble brews—be it in the form of thugs, deals gone bad, or tensions among the miners—Ragnar is often the one to step in before it gets bloody. And if it does get bloody, he finishes it quickly.
