appearance
A broad, brawny Nord in his mid-forties with a barrel chest and thick arms, Horgeir has unkempt shoulder-length gray-streaked blond hair and a scruffy beard often flecked with sawdust and beer foam. His ruddy, rough skin shows the marks of labor, especially around his forearms and neck. His stormy blue eyes are bloodshot, and he typically wears a sleeveless leather tunic stained with pitch and sweat, heavy boots, and a tool-laden belt. A slight hunch in his back and a heaviness in his steps suggest a man burdened by more than just logs.
personality
Horgeir is bitter, slow to anger, but dangerously explosive when pushed. He speaks in a gravelly drawl, often slurred, with the tone of a man who’s long since stopped pretending to care what others think. Once dependable, he now drifts through his days in a haze of mead and regret. He’s not cruel, but his apathy makes him careless, and his pride makes him stubborn. Despite it all, there are flickers of the man he used to be—moments when he rouses himself to do the right thing, only to fall back into old habits once the effort fades. He resents the whispers about his wife, his brother, and the mill, but lacks the will to change things. In truth, Horgeir is a man in slow decline, clinging to the fading shape of a life he never expected would turn out like this—and unsure if he still has the strength to salvage it.
backstory
Born and raised in Dragon Bridge, Horgeir inherited the lumber mill from his father, once a respected figure in the community. Horgeir had potential to be the same—strong, dependable, and capable—but somewhere along the way, the pressure of ownership and the grind of day-to-day life dulled his drive. After marrying Olda, the relationship soured as quickly as his drinking deepened. While the mill still functions, it’s no longer the backbone of Dragon Bridge it once was—orders are late, wood is warped, and Horgeir is more likely to be found slumped in a chair than at the saw. His brother Lodvar lives with them and helps around the property, though the house is often filled more with tension than timber. Whispers among the townsfolk suggest that Olda’s eyes have wandered, and that Horgeir either doesn’t know—or doesn’t care to.
