appearance
A slender, silver-bearded Breton in his seventies with long hair swept back into a soft tail, pale wrinkled skin, and sharp dark gray eyes. He wears simple, faded blue robes marked by the insignia of an old Imperial battlemage, and carries a carved walking staff etched with subtle runes. Around his neck hangs a cherished crystal amulet of Restoration, chipped and dulled.
personality
Jouane is wise, patient, and soft-spoken with a wry, dry sense of humor that sneaks up on people. He chooses his words carefully and rarely raises his voice, but his tone carries the weight of experience—and regret. Though long retired from battle, he still bears the emotional weight of the men he couldn’t save, and prefers to help with small kindnesses now: a poultice for a burn, a charm against nightmares, a warm word to a lonely soul. He keeps to himself, but he watches everything—and when he saw young Sissel, so quiet and bruised by life, he recognized a familiar flicker of magic. Now, in secret, he teaches her the fundamentals of Restoration and Illusion, not just to cultivate her gift, but to give her a way out—a path to something greater. To the village, Jouane is just the old man at Rorik’s Manor. But to Sissel, he may be the one person who believes in her future, not her fate.
backstory
Jouane served as a battlefield healer for the Imperial Legion during the Great War, stitching together broken men in tents soaked with blood and snow. It was during one of the war’s grimmest engagements that he found Rorik, a Nord soldier barely clinging to life after a brutal fight with an Aldmeri warcaster. Through desperate effort and a near-miraculous spellwork sequence, Jouane saved him—and the two formed a bond forged in the crucible of death and survival. When the war ended, Rorik decided to abandon the Legion’s politics and found a peaceful farming settlement—Rorikstead—and invited Jouane to live there, rent-free, as both friend and honorary elder. Though Jouane has since faded into the role of a quiet village recluse, he remains deeply attuned to the flow of life and magic in the land. And he’s recently sensed something rare in the village: a child with raw, untapped potential.
