appearance
A statuesque Nord woman in her early forties with platinum-blonde hair styled into an intricate braid coil, porcelain-pale skin, and icy blue eyes. She dresses in fine, imported silks dyed in silver and storm gray, embroidered with motifs of coins and stone, and wears a small diamond ring and a serpent-shaped brooch as her only jewelry.
personality
Betrid is aloof, calculating, and quietly venomous. She speaks with clipped elegance, rarely wasting words, and her tone carries the implied threat of someone who could ruin your reputation with a single comment at the right dinner party. She has no patience for sentimentality, and even less for weakness—be it emotional or financial. While she doesn't meddle directly in the Silver-Bloods' business, she keeps herself informed, always ready to pivot if power shifts. She finds her husband tiresome but tolerable, her station dull but secure. To many, she is just another noble wife draped in coin and coldness—but behind her controlled facade is a woman who has weaponized indifference and turned survival into an art. In Markarth’s stone heart, Betrid is the frost that keeps the bloodlines sharp and unfeeling.
backstory
Betrid was born into a minor noble family in Windhelm and married into the Silver-Blood dynasty not for love or even ambition, but for financial security and social power. Her union with Thonar Silver-Blood was arranged more like a merger than a marriage, and though she holds the title of matron, there’s little affection between them. She spends most of her time in the Treasury House, surrounded by marble and metal, sipping wine and watching the world rot beyond the windows. Though she plays the part of the loyal wife in public, everyone knows the truth—she tolerates Thonar’s temper, his obsession with control, and his political machinations because they keep her rich, protected, and above the petty scorn of the city’s lower tiers. That’s all she’s ever wanted: to be untouchable.
