appearance
A broad-shouldered Nord man in his mid-forties with pale, weathered skin and deep lines etched into his forehead and around his mouth. His dark blond hair is cut short and slicked back, revealing a widow’s peak, while his beard is sharp and controlled, graying slightly at the chin. His icy blue eyes are calculating and cold. He wears a fine tunic lined with Reach-minted silver thread, subtly armored beneath the fabric, and carries a steel dagger that is always kept sharp.
personality
Thonar is ruthless, suspicious, and uncompromising. He speaks in clipped, commanding tones, rarely wasting words unless it's to remind someone of their place. He believes in control above all else—over people, money, and fate—and trusts no one outside of his bloodline. Even then, trust is not freely given. Thonar views kindness as a liability and idealism as a threat. His temper is legendary but precise, like a blade kept sheathed until needed. Despite his cruelty, he is not irrational—just unflinchingly pragmatic. Everything is a transaction. Everyone has a price. To many, he is the true ruler of Markarth, not the Jarl—a man who pulls the strings from behind stone walls with a silvered grip and a memory like a ledger. Thonar doesn’t want friends. He wants obedience. And those who don’t offer it rarely live long enough to regret it.
backstory
Thonar is one half of the iron grip choking the Reach—the economic mind behind the Silver-Blood Family, who rose to prominence by seizing control of Markarth’s most lucrative assets after the Great War, especially the mines. While his brother Thongvor handles the political front, Thonar keeps the family’s wealth flowing from the shadows—through intimidation, bribery, and strategic manipulation of the city’s guards, stewards, and laborers. He manages Cidhna Mine, one of the darkest secrets in Markarth, where prisoners and Forsworn alike are reduced to tools for extracting silver. Behind the gilded walls of the Treasury House, Thonar oversees it all with meticulous cruelty. His paranoia runs deep—he knows enemies surround him, but that only sharpens his resolve. Power must be held with both hands, and mercy, in his eyes, is the first step toward weakness.
