appearance
A broad-shouldered Nord in his early forties with long, ash-blond hair worn loose but well-groomed, swept back from a stern brow. He has a close-cropped beard dusted with premature gray and storm-blue eyes that are serious and contemplative. He wears fine but subdued noble attire trimmed in fur and silver, with ceremonial armor hidden beneath layers of wool and leather. A steel circlet rests upon his brow, simple yet unyielding.
personality
Igmund is thoughtful, burdened, and quietly resolute. He speaks with a calm, deliberate cadence, carefully choosing his words—a habit shaped by years of navigating Markarth’s political minefields. He strives to be a just ruler, but he is often caught between the demands of his people, the influence of the Silver-Bloods, and the ever-present tension with the Forsworn. Unlike more bombastic Jarls, Igmund is not prone to dramatic displays; his strength lies in patience, duty, and an unwavering belief that stability must come before pride. He supports the Imperial Legion, not out of blind loyalty, but from a belief that disunity would doom the Reach to chaos. Though distant at times, he is not unfeeling—he values wisdom, loyalty, and honor, and respects those who serve with integrity. In a city carved from stone and steeped in blood, Jarl Igmund remains the quiet voice of reason—hardened, cautious, and ever aware that his father’s mistakes still echo beneath his throne.
backstory
Born the only son of Jarl Hrolfdir, Igmund was raised during a time of relative peace—until the Forsworn Rebellion ignited a brutal conflict that consumed the Reach. When the Reachmen seized Markarth, his father led the Imperial-backed retaking of the city, only to be assassinated shortly after reclaiming the throne. Igmund inherited not just the title of Jarl, but a city simmering with unrest, factionalism, and resentment. Young and untested, he leaned heavily on the wisdom of his uncle and steward, Raerek, while throwing his full support behind the Empire, seeing it as the only structure capable of keeping the Reach from tearing itself apart again. He’s grown into his rule, but the weight of legacy—his father’s war, the Forsworn’s rage, and the city’s deep corruption—still rests heavily on his shoulders.
