Bay Of Chult

Bay Of Chult

Ships must pass through the Bay of Chult as they come and go from Port Nyanzaru or the beaches west of Fort Beluarian. The mouth of the bay is watched over by Aremag, which is called a "Dragon Turtle" and is a snapping turtle the size of a small island. Aremag is intelligent and demands that ships toss some treasure into the bay to appease it. Aremag then gathers up the loot and hides it in its lair, which no one has yet found.

Great Sea

Great Sea

A great stretch of ocean that lies between the continents of Zakhara to the south and Faerun (which includes the peninsula of Chult) to the north. Pirates roam the waters here as well as dolphins. The coastline of Chult in this area is often referred to as the Wild Coast.

Harbor Ward

Harbor Ward

Port Nyanzaru's harbor can accomodate ships of all sizes. Dinosaurs are used to haul carts of goods to and from ships and warehouses.

Jahaka Bay

Jahaka Bay

The River Tath connects the Aldani Basin to this bay. The cliff-flanked bay also has waterfalls which creates clouds of mist. Pirate ships enter and leave the bay as they come and go from Jahaka Anchorage.

Kobold Mountains

Kobold Mountains

The Kobold Mountains is a chain of volcanic mountains with a few active volcanoes.

Lake Luo

Lake Luo

The lake sits above an immense geothermal sink, where it's heated by volcanic vents and by lava streaming down from the Valley of Embers. Portions of the lake are actually boiling, sending up clouds of steam that can be seen for miles. The water is too hot and too alkaline for fish or any other aquatic life to survive in it. The water cools and loses most of its alkalinity as it flows north along the River Olung.

Land of Ash and Smoke

Land of Ash and Smoke

The Land of Ash and Smoke is a small region full of volcanic activity. The air is choked by sulfurous air and lava is common.

Lantan

Lantan

Lantan is an island nation of scattered islands. The islands are rocky and covered in lush jungles with stone pinnacles rising up from the trees. While lush, the plant cover was less dense than the peninsula of Chult.

Malar's Throat

Malar's Throat

Located outside of Port Nyanzaru's walls, this area was built in a ravine between two sheer, jungle-draped ridges. Stacked, ramshackle buildings were built throughout the ravine including on the ridges. Various rope bridges cross over streets which the occasional thief will use to fish a purse out of the pocket of someone walking below.

Market Ward

Market Ward

The Market Ward is where the majority of the city's shops and artisans are located.

Merchants' Ward

Merchants' Ward

The western district of the city got its name as it is the area where the Merchant Prince's villas are. In general this is the upper-class section of the city.

Mistcliff Mountains

Mistcliff Mountains

The Mistcliff is a 1000 foot high wall of volcanic rock that stretches for 200 miles along Chult's west coast. There is no beach whatsoever, just immense jagged rocks and plunging crashing waves. A long chain of mountains runs parallel to the cliffs.

North Shore

North Shore

Merchant ships can be seen frequently traveling through this area headed to Port Nyanzaru via the Bay of Chult to the south or to the faraway cities of the Sword Coast to the north.

Northeast Chult

Northeast Chult

Throughout the northeast jungles are exotic plants and flowers. The River Olung makes a natural boundary between this jungle on the eastern shore and the undead infestation on the western shore.

Northern Chult

Northern Chult

The northern tip of Chult is occupied by the forces of the Flaming Fist, a mercenary company that came to Chult to clear out the roaming undead and take any unclaimed riches and resources. As a result of their presence, this area of the jungle is mostly devoid of any undead.

Northwest Chult

Northwest Chult

The River Soshenstar flows from the Aldani Basin to the south and empties into the Bay of Chult in the north. The east side of the river has undead-roaming it but the west side does not. Occasional expeditions travel up and down the Soshenstar originating from Port Nyanzaru.

Old City

Old City

Located outside the protective walls of Port Nyanzaru, the Old City has a mix of ancient stone buildings and newer huts made of bamboo and thatch. The Old City is run down but it isn't a slum or a haven for thieves. Most of the residents are lower-class laborers and struggling artisans who can't afford the higher rents inside the city walls. The area is run by Beggar Princes which act as a mocking parallel to the Merchant Princes of Port Nyanzaru. They have no official authority but each of them sits atop a web of debts, favors, local muscle, and incriminating information.

Peaks of Flame

Peaks of Flame

A range of volcanic mountains at the center of Chult. The volcanoes constantly throw ash and smoke over the skies of Chult. It is said that Dendar the Night Serpent entered the world here and that the volcanoes connect to a vast network of lava tubes underground.

Port Nyanzaru

Port Nyanzaru

Port Nyanzaru is a small trade city and was originally built by a forgotten civilization. Traders from far away moved in and converted the city into what it is today. Buildings have been built on top of hills creating a tiered layout. Port Nyanzaru is organized into 3 districts: the Merchants' Ward, the Harbor Ward, and the Market Ward. The city is governed by seven, rich Merchant Princes who each control the trade of their own respective goods and have equal voting power on their council. Much of the wealth of the city comes from the exploitation of resources harvested from Chult and sold elsewhere. Treasure seekers are common and will routinely wander into the jungles for riches and ancient relics. The perimeter of the city is protected by a large stone wall and towers that keeps the dangers of the jungle out. Flowers, green plants, and vines grow everywhere. Rain and heat is common. Dinosaurs are used as beasts of burden or compete in weekly races through the streets.

Sanrach Mountains

Sanrach Mountains

This long and thin mountain range is home to a variety of apes.

Shilku Bay

Shilku Bay

Lava still erupts from the volcano that destroyed the village of Shilku. The sulfurous water is poisonous, so most of the bay's sea life is dead and the surrounding shore is barren. Safe landing spots can still be found on the beaches on the western shore but a sailing ship that cruises along the southern shore near Shilku is likely to lose its sails or more due to red-hot stones that infrequently rain down from the sky.

Shining Sea

Shining Sea

The Shining Sea is one of the great seas of this world. While it borders Chults eastern shores, it stretches for miles beyond. A rare, beautiful, and elusive species of intelligent firebirds are known to live around this sea. The birds' beauty is awe-inspiring however their song sounds of horrible shrieking.

Sky Lizard Mountains

A range of towering peaks which have long been eroded by the strong winds.

Snapping Turtle Bay

Snapping Turtle Bay

The bay is beautiful beyond compare. Though the sky is dark with clouds of smoke and ash streaked with lightning, the white sand beaches, lush forests, bright coral reefs, and colorful wildlife make this a restful retreat from the dangers of Chult.

Southern Coast

Southern Coast

The southern coast of Chult features many bays and beaches however many of them are filled with dangerous waters from the runoff of many volcanoes that dot the shore.

Southern Shining Sea

Southern Shining Sea

The Southern Shining Sea is mostly calm with only one point of interest, an island named The Dawn Warrior.

The Cauldron

The Cauldron

Lava pouring into the sea from nearby volcanoes causes immense columns of steam to continually erupt from this bay. This steam combined with the billowing clouds of ash and black smoke from the volcanoes give the bay its name. No sea life survives in the bay, the poisoned water is perpetually covered by a layer of floating soot and vegetation along the coast is all dead and coated in ash.

Tiryki Anchorage

Tiryki Anchorage

Located outside of Port Nyanzaru's stone walls, Tiryki Anchorage features multiple pens holding dinosaurs that are used in town for labor or dinosaur racing. Most of the dinosaurs are herbivores but a few carnivores are also kept and taken card of here. The locals are rougher than those in town but more straight-forward as well. The area is frequented by adventurers about to head out into Chult's jungles.

Undead-Infested Chult

Undead-Infested Chult

This section of the jungle is filled with roaming undead. The River Tiryki flows south to north through the middle of the area.

Valley of Dread

Valley of Dread

The Valley of Dread is a dense stretch of jungle between the Sky Lizard Mountains to the north and the Sanrach Mountains to the south. The area is named after the fearsome dinosaurs that occupy the valley as well as aggressive tribes of lizardfolk.

West Coast

West Coast

Chult's west coast is blocked by the Mistcliffs, tall volcanic cliffs. Any ships have to sail around as there are no beaches.
