What was once a single city has now expanded to most of Faerun in this High Fantasy adventure of magic, technology, and secrets to uncover!

Now expanded and reimagined for deeper exploration and immersive play. Waterdeep: The City of Splendors is your main gateway to the other famous Sword Coast locations like Baldur's Gate, Neverwinter, the Moonsea Region, and even the distant reaches of the Outer Planes. While Waterdeep remains the heart of the experience, its surrounding territories are available for those bold enough to venture beyond the city walls. This adaptation builds upon official Forgotten Realms lore, but introduces both minor and major changes to support a more engaging and open-ended campaign. For example, the characters from Baldur’s Gate 3 are playable, but have been recontextualized to exist in Waterdeep rather than Baldur’s Gate. Content is designed for compatibility with Waterdeep: Dragon Heist, Dungeon of the Mad Mage, and a host of original plot hooks waiting to be uncovered across the city’s alleys, taverns, towers, and catacombs. You’re free to explore at your own pace, shape the world as you see fit, or lose yourself in the layered politics, mysteries, and magic of the world. Description

Blackstaff Tower, once Arunsun Tower, stands as a formidable landmark in Waterdeep's Castle Ward. Once home to Khelben "Blackstaff" Arunsun, passed down to his successor Varja, this imposing structure is crafted from smooth black stone, featuring no windows or doors. The main entrance on Swords Street leads to a central stairwell and portal, connecting numerous levels. The tower is self-repairing, mending swiftly after damage. Inside, illusory windows allow one way views outside. The top floor houses a study, a scrying chamber, and a library with a one-way dimensional door to Candlekeep. Currently, it's peak serves as the residence of Vajra Safahr, the youngest Blackstaff. The main levels serve as Blackstaff Academy training ground for gifted spellcasters. The massive hidden basement, only accesed via the portal or tunnels by Force Grey members, is headquarters for Force Grey, there tunnels link the tower to various locations in Waterdeep, allowing quick travel for Force Grey.

Appearance

Blackstaff Tower looms in silent black stone, featureless but for its arched doorway traced in glowing runes. No windows pierce its smooth surface, and no light escapes its walls. The tower rises from dim streets like a monolith, shadow swallowing nearby alleys. Hooded figures pass beneath lanterns, their steps hushed on wet stone. Even in stillness, the tower feels aware—sealed, watching, ready.
