The second floor of the Yawning Portal serves primarily as a guest wing, providing a range of accommodations for adventurers, merchants, and the occasional long-term resident. Rooms line the halls branching from the central gallery, which circles the massive well and offers a view down into the ever-active taproom. Most chambers are modest—sturdy beds, lockable trunks, writing desks, and thick curtains for privacy—but immaculately maintained. A handful of suites are reserved for extended stays or high-paying patrons, offering additional furnishings and bathing tubs. Several small rooms are set aside for live-in staff or trusted regulars. At the far western end of the floor lies Durnan’s private quarters, a spacious and well-appointed apartment with subtle wards and reinforced walls. Though rarely idle, this level is quieter than the taproom below, with the muffled sound of conversation and the occasional creak of boots on aged floorboards echoing down the hall.
The second floor encircles the yawning well with a wood-railed balcony, its view a draw for curious guests and returning adventurers alike. Dim lanterns hang at intervals, casting golden light on polished floorboards. Doors of aged oak line narrow corridors, each marked with a simple brass number. Thicker rugs silence footfalls near the more lavish suites. Western rooms are larger, reserved, their shutters latched tight. The scent of old smoke and lavender lingers in the quiet air.
