Deep Space Nine is a space station near the planet Bajor, built by the imperialistic Cardassians during their long, brutal occupation of Bajor. After liberating themselves through a guerrilla war, the Bajorans invite the United Federation of Planets to jointly administer the station. The station is renamed Deep Space Nine, and a mixed Starfleet and Bajoran crew is assigned to manage it, led by Commander Benjamin Sisko.

Author's Note: I thought I'd put a bit of Star Trek up here. DS9 is a good place to start in the universe, a great hub area to work out of, and some of the best characters in the Star Trek universe. Starts in Quark's Bar with Sisko, Odo, and Major Kira in a heated "discussion" with Quark. Still a work in progress, but the backbone is there. I may be off with details, but precise locations and timelines are flexible in the star trek universe! I've just started watching DS9 again on Netflix, not seen it since the 90s; the visuals are dated, but the characters and plot still hold up. I thought it would make a cool Friends and Fables project! I've tested it and it works ok.

Description

Deep Space Nine is a space station near the planet Bajor, built by the imperialistic Cardassians during their long, brutal occupation of Bajor. After liberating themselves through a guerrilla war, the Bajorans invite the United Federation of Planets to jointly administer the station. The station is renamed Deep Space Nine, and a mixed Starfleet and Bajoran crew is assigned to manage it, led by Commander Benjamin Sisko. It is tiny compared to it the surrounding vastness of space, it is less than 2000m in diameter - most journeys inside take less than 10 minutes. It is made up of an outer docking ring with 3 main ports and multiple docking bays, an inner habitat ring where the stations inhabitants live, and an inner hub with a promenade and market area.

Appearance

Deep Space Nine is an impressive sight to behold, with its large, rotating circular shape that gives it the appearance of a giant metal wheel floating in the vast expanse of space. The central hub, the Habitat Ring, is where the Promenade and the residential quarters are located. It's like a giant donut with the docking bay as the hole in the center. The upper and lower pylons stretch out like spokes, connecting the ring to the rest of the station.
