Description
Rotfiends resemble decomposing human bodies that have been stripped of their skin. Their presence is given away by the overwhelming stench of rot, which is a distinctive feature that lends them their name. These creatures, particularly the dangerous devourer variety, exhibit an insatiable appetite for human flesh and have become rampant in the age of warfare and violence, especially around battlefields and disease-ridden areas. Though they primarily feed on carrion, they will occasionally attack the living—especially lone travelers—given their remarkable speed, which exceeds that of a galloping horse. The rotfiend's decomposing form is filled with poisonous gases that can harm even the stoutest of warriors, and their bodies are also prone to explosion upon death, making them perilous foes even in demise. They are most active during the twilight hours and night, when they pose a greater threat to any who cross their path.

Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 9 (2d6 + 2) piercing damage plus 4 (1d8) poison damage.
Poisonous Emanation
The rotfiend releases a cloud of toxic gas in a 10-foot radius. Each creature in that area must succeed on a DC 13 Constitution saving throw or take 10 (3d6) poison damage and be poisoned for 1 minute. A poisoned target can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success.
