Political Official
The needs of nations do not cease even in times of war. Officials of varying capacity tend to the governance and administration of Sovereign nations, as well as tending to diplomatic affairs and international interests. In some more authoritarian countries, like the USSR, the role of Political Officials can be expanded into combat roles as Political Commissars, ensuring loyalty to the State at all times. A character considered a commissar holds rank equivalent of an Officer.
Enlisted
The backbone of all armies to have ever existed. The officers might make up the plan, but it is the enlisted men and women that make those plans happen.
Officer
Officers are generally the leadership elements of most militaries, they make the strategic level decisions that whole battle plans are drawn around. There are many ranks in the various Officer Corps around the world but they all uniformally expect those under them to follow orders. Note: Pilots are all Officers by default, but treat their roles like that of Enlisted personnel.
Engineer
Tasked with maintenance on things as menial as air conditioning, to complex machines like tanks and TSFs, the engineer is the oil that keeps humanity's defensive cogs turning. If TSF pilots have friends outside of their immediate squadron, it's most likely an engineer.
Scientist
In a world on the verge of annihilation, science is more important than ever. Leading the charge into advanced materiel science for TSF construction, for weapons R&D, and to the study of the BETA themselves, scientists may not be at the forefront of humanity's defense, but they are just as invaluable.
Instructor
Whether pilot in a TSF or a grunt with naught but a rifle, a mess cook or a combat medic, all share that their first military experience was their Instructors hounding them to be more than they were. The Instuctor is a mentor and teacher, ensuring that every recruit and trainee is not only brought up to basic military competence, but to excel and out perform in chaotic environments. Every pilot Instructor is a combat veteran, having fought and lived through the fabled "8 minutes of death".
Trainee
This is a place holder class for Pilots undergoing training. [Upon completion of training, one of the available Pilot classes will be available on level up]
Pilot - Blast Guard
The Blast Guard's role is to herd enemy forces and assist in crowd control, allowing the rest of the squadron to manage their jobs. As such, units assigned to the Blast Guard role are often provided with missile containers to bombard enemy formations. In Hives, they also handle direct bombardment of enemy forces. All Pilots, once commissioned, start their careers as Officers, to the rank of Lieutenant.
Pilot - Impact Guard
Tasked to maintain long-range supporting fire, unlike Rush Guards, who are capable of both long- and mid-range fire support, an Impact Guard's job is to focus on suppressing or destroying particularly dangerous enemies, or groups of enemies, from long range. Impact Guards are typically picked for their skills in long-range shooting, as well as their ability to make snap judgements in rapidly changing environments.
Pilot - Rush Guard
Focused on long and mid-range fire support, Rush Guard assist the Gun Sweepers in engaging the enemy, and are tasked with supporting the Gun Sweepers with rapidly thinning the BETA groups which are being engaged by the main forces. All Pilots, once commissioned, start their careers as Officers, to the rank of Lieutenant.
Pilot - Gun Interceptor
Providing additional firepower, the role of the Gun Interceptor is to watch the flanks and manage the killzone of the squadron, acting from the forward flanks and providing additional cover as necessary. They also screen the rear support group from enemies, and help coordinate efforts of the rear and forward teams. As such, squadron leaders are always fixed as Gun Interceptors, and flight leaders among the non-Vanguards are typically found in this role as well.
Pilot - Gun Sweeper
Acting near the frontlines, and engaging the enemy with large volumes of weapons fire, the Gun Sweeper's role is the rapid extermination of enemy forces while they are engaged with the Vanguards, raking them with massive, sweeping arcs of fire. Most Gun Sweepers prefer a loadout of only guns, all blazing in a massive volley. Should a unit be in danger of being isolated from the others, the massive firepower of the Gun Sweeper is brought to bear to prevent that.
Pilot - Strike Vanguard
A variation on the "Storm" load, the "Strike" load is more offense-oriented, opting for additional guns instead of a shield. Reguardless, the role is the same; to keep the BETA at arms' length. Strike Vanguards generally operate behind the Storm Vanguards, providing extra firepower and close range support as necessary. All Pilots, once commissioned, start their careers as Officers, to the rank of Lieutenant.
Pilot - Storm Vanguard
Generally fighting in front of the squadron, the role of the Vanguards is to keep the enemy out of range of the others, and the "Storm" load focuses on capability to engage the enemy at both short and medium range, with a shield for additional protection. The role of first Storm Vanguard in the squadron is generally the most coveted, as it implies being one of the most trusted and able. All Pilots when first commissioned are Officers, to the rank of Lieutenant.
