Alternative V

Since the intitial testing of G-Bombs in 1987, @The United States of America (USA) has petitioned the @United Nations and the rest of the world repeatedly towards an anti-BETA policy revolving around the use of the G-Bomb. The idea that G-Bombs could be used to destroy a Hive, and then through the recovery of additional G-Elements, the process repeating indefinitely until Humanity's victory, sounded like a good one. After decades of war, a rising death toll, and continuous pressuring by pro-American factions, the UN finally accepts the proposal and ratifies Alternative V in 1997 as a last ditch contingency plan in event of the failure of @Alternative IV. Having two plans active at the same time was unprecedented and alarming, showcasing just how desparate the BETA War was going. This coincided with new data from the Icarus 1 probe, showing a habitable planetoid around Bernard's Star. Therefore, the plan is to send a Migrant Fleet to the planetoid, while all remaining forces on Earth initiate a large counter offensive with mass G-Bomb detonations against all known BETA Hives. These migrant ships begin construction in orbit immediately, but are expensive and slow to produce.

Heavy-handed Negotiations

Considered the most powerful nation in the world, due to technology and relative safety throughout the entirety of the BETA War, @The United States of America (USA) leverages its massive political power to coerce and bribe @United Nations' members towards supporting Alternative V. In some cases, even going so far as to withdraw American troops from vulnerable fronts. This political pressure is ceaseless and continues well into the present. In 1998, the use of two G-Bombs during Operation Lucifer in efforts to secure the Yokohama Hive in the @Empire of Japan, showcasing the alledged effectiveness of the weapons, triggers a shift in support towards Alternative V. Pro-American allies see the potential to reclaim lost territories, while skeptics are alarmed at the power and devastation of the G-Bombs.

The "Yuuko Report" is released within the year, reviewing the data on the detonations during Operation Lucifer, and showing scientific equations, physics, and formulae of the potential hazards of continuous use or mass use of G-Bombs. It predicts mass tidal shifts, tsunamis, and the potential of knocking Earth out of the habitation zone in solar orbit. @Yuuko Kouzuki's report is buried by pro-American interest groups.

Where does this go in the story?

At the time of @Takeru Shirogane's arrival in the BETAverse on October 22, 2001, pressure to move on to Alternative V are already at a potential boiling point. Years of lobbying and pressure on political opposition by @The United States of America (USA), in addition to the rising death toll and projected attrition rates of the nearly 30 year BETA War, force the @United Nations to scrutinize the progress and efforts of @Alternative IV. Something tangible must be produced, like a new Operating System for TSFs, or the completion of the @00 Unit. Otherwise, Alternative V will be enacted as humanity's last chance at victory.
