The Beginnings of the Alternative Plans (I&II)

The Alternative Plans are a series of plans originally created with the objective of finding a way of communicating with the BETA. As the BETA War progresses, priorities flucuate between communication, intelligence gathering, and even emergency contingencies, pushed forward by various member states of the @United Nations. The existence of these plans are relatively common knowledge, though the details and specifics are only known to relevant parties, chiefly high ranking @Officers, @Political Officials, and @Scientists working towards the objectives of the Plans themselves.

Alternative I

With Humanity rapidly developing space technology with rapid advancements through the 1950s and 1960s, a collaborative think tank organization, Dignified 12, comprised of 12 people ranging from mathematicians and linguists to other important personnel, was created for the purpose of establishing methods of cross-species communication. With discoveries of potential life on Mars, Dignified 12 makes their transition to the Alternative Plans, becoming a global large-scale project. (This early, the BETA have not yet been named as such, since they have not yet proven to be hostile adversaries to the human race). Attempts are made to find a way to understand these aliens by theoretically analysing their language and ways of thinking. Ended in failure.

Alternative II

After the Sacrobosco Incident, hostile interactions with the alien race now discovered to also be present on the Moon, a state of war is declared. With the escalation of conflict and full blown hostilities, the Alternative Plans move under the control of the @United Nations, moving into Alternative II. Priorities shift to capture, dissection and analysis of the newly christened BETA (Beings of ExtraTerrestrial origin and Adversary to the Humna race) specimens. Throughout the First Lunar War, and in the opening years of the BETA War on Earth, many lives are sacrificed for this to come to pass, but all that comes of the research done on the samples is the conclusion that the BETA are carbon-based life-forms and had very little in common between its different strains.
