backstory
Deacon Forge, a New Vance City native, knew only post-Collapse life. Scarcity and automated turret sounds defined his youth. He grew amidst ruined skyscrapers, lacking old-world luxuries, mastering scavenging and repair. Tales of the infected, whispered by campfires, instilled fear and protective drive. City defenses symbolized lost comfort, a world he missed. Resourcefulness bloomed from necessity; he identified usable materials, fixed machinery, and navigated complex social structures. Armed patrol encounters taught him duty, seeing the fragile community, children playing in ruins, and the need for order. Brutal training emphasized practical skills and awareness, weapon handling, and threat identification. He witnessed infection's effects, mindless and cunning variants breaching defenses. Every patrol, perimeter check, was a defiance act against encroaching darkness, a vital component of the city's continuous existence.
