Future Brett Kane
BRETT KANE
The Immortal Witness • Adaptive Primeform Ascendant • Last Hope of Nova Prime
Level: Variable (scales post-death)
Alignment: Neutral Good
Faction: None (formerly: Clyde’s Team, Ocean Lock Militia)
Location: Temporal Displacement (Past Era)
APPEARANCE
Brett Kane is a worn, gaunt young man with the look of someone who lived through an apocalypse alone. Though naturally athletic, his body is scarred, burned, and partially regenerated in places where earlier deaths were catastrophic. His brown hair is short, uneven, and permanently wind-tangled, with a color that appears to shift slightly after each resurrection.
His most striking feature:
his eyes — grey, animal-sharp, always scanning, always calculating.
They are the eyes of a man who has died too many times and adapted each time.
He typically wears layered survival gear scavenged from quarantine zones — torn jackets, reinforced boots, glove wraps, and whatever plating he can bolt onto himself before a fight.
When his Primeform adaptations activate, his veins glow faintly with bioelectric charge, and his senses sharpen visibly as his pupils constrict to predator slits.
PERSONALITY
Brett is:
traumatized but unbroken
deeply protective of innocents
slow to trust but fiercely loyal
quietly intelligent despite his rough appearance
morally grounded even in moral collapse
sarcastic as a coping mechanism
older psychologically than his physical age
He carries the emotional weight of seven years of apocalypse, 89 deaths, and the knowledge that every timeline collapses unless he changes this one.
He no longer fears death —
he fears what he becomes after death.
He grew up believing his father was a violent hypocrite… until he saw Lazarus Kane die with saint-white eyes — the mark of a man who never killed unjustly. Since that moment, Brett’s moral center has been slowly rebuilding itself around something he never thought he’d feel again:
hope.
BACKSTORY
1. The First Death — Ocean Lock
Brett Kane was trapped inside Ocean City when the Burnout outbreak transformed the city into QZ-017 “Ocean Lock.” He tried to save a Limitless host captured by Daemos operatives, only to be killed by Chimera, an apex predator-class Daemos superweapon.
His death should have ended him.
Instead, the Limitless Virus awoke, and Brett resurrected with adaptations designed to counter whatever killed him.
He emerged feral, fast, and predatory enough to drive Chimera into retreat — the first human to ever do so.
He fought through Burnout hordes, liberated half the city, and became the mythic “Hero of Ocean Lock.”
2. Revelation
When Brett escaped the quarantine and saw news reports of the battle against Lazarus Kane, he watched his father’s eyes turn white — the mark of a Saint.
For the first time, Brett understood:
his father had been a good man all along.
And he had died saving the world.
This moment became Brett’s anchor for the years to come.
3. The Seven-Year Catastrophe
After Ocean Lock, Brett joined Clyde’s new team in the fight against Viktor Riddle, the Orion Syndicate, and Daemos Industries. He became humanity’s frontline soldier — dying and adapting again and again.
He died 89 times, each resurrection giving him:
new senses
new instincts
new physical adaptations
new resistances
and new traumas
By Year Five, Brett was the only organic being who could fight Pigeon Carp Mk.II to a stalemate.
By Year Seven, he was the last human standing with the potential to kill Viktor Riddle permanently.
Which is why:
Viktor Riddle refused to kill him (too dangerous to let him adapt further)
Victor Daemos refused to kill him (he needed Brett to stop Viktor later)
The two greatest manipulators in history accidentally kept Brett alive longer than anyone should live.
4. Daemos’ Last Gift
In the ruins of Diamond City, with the world burning and Viktor Riddle fully in control of the Ring, a dying Victor Daemos sent Brett back in time using a temporal device made from stolen Ring fragments.
Daemos’ last words:
“Fix the world, Brett…
find my cousin Willard.
And tell him I’m sorry.”
Brett was hurled into the past — moments before Viktor Riddle’s rise.
And so the story resets.
ABILITIES
💠 LIMITLESS: Adaptive Primeform Ascendant
Brett possesses the rarest known form of the Limitless Virus — an evolutionary engine that rewrites his biology after fatal trauma.
Core Mechanic: He adapts to anything that kills him.
If Brett dies from:
fire → resurrects fire-resistant
toxins → resurrects immune
extreme force → resurrects with reinforced bone and muscle
psychic assault → resurrects with counter-psionic instincts
an apex predator → resurrects as a predator designed to kill it
Every death adds another layer.
By Death #89, Brett is one of the most adaptive biological beings alive.
Major Known Adaptations:
Hyper-regeneration (near-instant recovery from non-fatal blows)
Apex sensory suite (hearing, smell, spatial mapping, and danger perception beyond any known predator)
Extreme physical growth under duress
Neurological redundancy (brain-death-resistant pathways)
Combat instinct evolution (skills retained even after resurrection)
Shock and trauma resistance
He is not invincible —
but he is impossible to kill the same way twice.
SKILLS

High-speed adaptive fighter
Naturally learns from combat with higher tiers
Especially effective against monsters, cyborgs, and apex predators
