Deep Space Nine is a space station near the planet Bajor, built by the imperialistic Cardassians during their long, brutal occupation of Bajor. After liberating themselves through a guerrilla war, the Bajorans invite the United Federation of Planets to jointly administer the station. The station is renamed Deep Space Nine, and a mixed Starfleet and Bajoran crew is assigned to manage it, led by Commander Benjamin Sisko. Set in the run-up to the Dominion War, Stardate 49962, roughly the year 2372.

Description
The Anomaly is a bizarre distortion in the fabric of reality, warping time and space around it. It manifests as a strange effect, distorting the perception of distance and time for those who approach. It is not a sentient being, it is a dysfunction in reality. It can have varied effects and appearances. An anomaly is not bound by the rules of physics, but can still be "solved" by a crew with suitable expertise. It is not hostile in of itself, but its effects can be very dangerous. Anomalies are mostly found in space, but they can also be localised on planets, moons, or asteroids.
