Tamriel: Origins

G
Gangnamstein22

Wage war, forge empires, and uncover the secrets of the Elves who first shaped Tamriel’s fate.

Author's Note: Welcome to Tamriel: Origins, a deep-time Elder Scrolls campaign set long before the Empire, before the Septims, and even before written history. This world is rooted in the Middle to Late Merethic Era, a time of mythic wars, divine architecture, and rising Elven empires. In this setting, the Ayleids, Chimer, Dwemer, Falmer, Maormer, and more vie for power across a still-young Tamriel. Great Towers are constructed to shape reality. Daedric cults walk openly among mortal races. And the borders between gods and kings blur with every passing century. This campaign is built on strictly canonical Elder Scrolls lore, reconstructed from in-game texts like Before the Ages of Man, The Annotated Anuad, and The Monomyth. Some areas from later eras have been rewritten to reflect their ancient origins—or replaced entirely. Explore vast wildernesses, witness the founding of civilizations, and decide which myths survive into legend.

appearance
Thalan mirrors his elder shield‑brother in stature—lean, broad‑shouldered, just shy of six feet—but carries a youthful ease Soril has long set aside. His white‑gold scale cuirass is edged in indigo leather, ceremonial yet battle‑worthy. A slim crescent scar cuts across his left cheek, earned parrying a Maormer cutlass; he wears it proudly. Blue‑white Welkynd dust is worked into the crest of his open helm so the plume emits a faint glow in dim light. His gauntlets end in glass‑tipped caps that spark faintly with stored magicka—evidence of novice spellwork. Across his back rests a longsword with a varla‑glass fuller, its pommel shaped like a rising star. A small, rune‑etched buckler stays slung on his hip. Pale blond hair tied in a warrior’s tail contrasts with bright hazel eyes that scan court petitioners with equal parts curiosity and caution.
personality
Idealistic and warm, Thalan views his station as chance to exemplify Meridia’s “cleansing light” through just action. He sees rule by fear as weakness, clashing philosophically with Taskmaster Varian. Though obedient, he questions orders that harm innocents, relying on Soril’s counsel before acting. Ambitious in craft, he dreams of forging a sentinel order blending steel and light‑magic; Calithiel’s star charts fascinate him. Thalan befriends outsiders easily—Ra’zhado’s caravan guards respect his fairness—yet remains oblivious to court politics, a naivety rivals might exploit. Protective of Soril, he would sacrifice rank to shield his brother from scandal, but secretly longs to prove himself beyond the elder’s shadow. In quiet moments he gazes at the Radiant Throne, wondering if Ayleid glory could one day coexist with mercy.
backstory
Thalan entered the corps two seasons after Soril; though untested, his quick reflexes earned him elite placement. During a pirate ambush at the jetty, Thalan absorbed lightning from a Maormer mage into his spell‑touched gauntlets and redirected it, saving dockworkers—an act that drew Magister Aerinwe’s interest. Now the magister pushes Thalan to hone battlemagic, while Soril fears arcane risks on royal duty. Thalan secretly trains at midnight in the Welkynd Forge, borrowing defective stones; PCs could discover his unauthorized sessions, either reporting him (damaging fraternal trust) or aiding his practice to gain an ally with palace access. He harbors sympathy for Nedic slaves—especially healer Nara—and has smuggled salves through Varan of the Mists. Exposure would place him at Varian’s mercy, a leverage point for intrigue‑minded players.
