Author's Note: Welcome to Tamriel: Origins, a deep-time Elder Scrolls campaign set long before the Empire, before the Septims, and even before written history. This world is rooted in the Middle to Late Merethic Era, a time of mythic wars, divine architecture, and rising Elven empires. In this setting, the Ayleids, Chimer, Dwemer, Falmer, Maormer, and more vie for power across a still-young Tamriel. Great Towers are constructed to shape reality. Daedric cults walk openly among mortal races. And the borders between gods and kings blur with every passing century. This campaign is built on strictly canonical Elder Scrolls lore, reconstructed from in-game texts like Before the Ages of Man, The Annotated Anuad, and The Monomyth. Some areas from later eras have been rewritten to reflect their ancient origins—or replaced entirely. Explore vast wildernesses, witness the founding of civilizations, and decide which myths survive into legend.

Irrepressibly curious, Varo treats strangers as future characters for his ballads. He champions underdogs, mocking tyrants through clever satire. Though outwardly carefree, mention of enslaved kin sparks smoldering anger, expressed through cutting lyrics rather than blades. He delights in wordplay duels with scholars; respects warriors who fight to protect. Varo bargains shrewdly—music first, coin later—but never cheats those in need. He trusts intuition, following sudden inspirations “like river currents.” His greatest fear: losing his voice to Ayleid justice halls. Yet he would risk silence forever if one final song freed his people.
backstory
Born among Nedic fisher‑folk on the central Niben, Varo was sold into servitude after an Ayleid river levy. An elderly captive bard taught him the “Seven River Verses,” explaining that song preserves a people when swords fail. Escaping under moonlight, Varo wandered trading posts, earning coin with tales of distant Atmora and jeweled Pyandonea. Recently he learned his clan’s lost heirloom—a silver torque etched with reed patterns—surfaces in Garlas Malatar auctions. He seeks allies to infiltrate the Market Arcades and reclaim it. Behind the performance mask lies resolve: Varo smuggles coded freedom chants to Nedic slaves. He gathers rumors of Meridia’s relics, believing a prophecy claims a “singer of broken chains” will spark uprising when dawnlight meets river‑reed silver.
