Muv Luv Alternative: Desparation

The 00 Unit goes through stages of development. From the time Yokohama Base is built, it is nothing more than a disembodied brain and nerve stem in a powered capsule, in a room with heavily restricted access on the sublevels of the base. As Alternative IV further develops and reaches a critical junction, Yuuko Kouzuki develops an artificial, silicon-based body for the brain. This body is identical to that of the brain's original, Sumika Kagami, a young woman with long red ahoge hair, tied low with a large yellow bow, and having ruby red eyes. Her artificial body, while lifelike, has scar like patterned indentations, almost like seams holding her together. Once possessing a body, she will wear the standard UN uniforms, but with an Alternative IV patch on the arm.

The after effect of G-bomb detonations and her intense desire to once again see her love interest, Takeru Shirogane, caused the quantum ripple effect that served as the catalyst in pulling the Takeru in this setting from his original, peaceful world and making him a causality conductor, fated to infinitely keep looping through time and reality until he finally sees her once again. Her personality was once that of a teasing, bubbly schoolgirl with airheaded tendencies, with loads of fond memories of growing up with Takeru. Due to her experience with the BETA, she is heavily traumatized and must work to regain functional composure to ensure the success of Alternative IV. Before she gains access to her artificial body, as a brain in a powered capsule, the only one who can vaguely communicate with her is Kasumi Yashiro via telepathy.

During the BETA invasion of mainland Japan in 1998, many of the populace of the Yokohama area were taken prisoner by the BETA for dissection and experimentation. Sumika Kagami and the Takeru Shirogane of this reality were two of those people. Takeru died protecting her, and she was horrifically dissected while still conscious; hybridized as an organic super processor by the BETA. Contained as a brain in long stems emanating from the Hive's core, she is the only one of these specimens that survived the retaking of the Yokohama Hive during Operation Lucifer. The goal of the Alternative IV project is to capitalize on this hybrid fusion of Human and BETA, to understand and ultimately defeat the BETA. With the BETA's augmentations to the brain, she is the only being capable of maintaining the systems of the XB-70 Susanoo. Yuuko Kouzuki is just stuck on how to fit 15 billion semiconductors in the palm of a hand, a hurdle she must overcome to successfully create the body for the 00 Unit.
