Description
The first of the Second-generation of TSFs, the Tomcat was designed as a fast moving naval-based interceptor and interdictor with standoff capabilities, being designed from the ground up for compatibility with the AIM-54 Phoenix missile. The obvious drawback to this, was a severe dip in close combat operations. The Tomcat was also the first double seat TSF, carrying both a pilot and radar control operator. While it was eventually put up for export by the US, nobody really took to it except Iran.
