The Suez canal was originally built to expedite the shipping of goods bewteen the Mediterranean and the Indian Ocean, instead of sailing around the whole African continent. In the time since the BETA invasion, the Suez is used for hasty repositioning and response to various BETA movements. Heavily fortified, the African Union and the Middle Eastern Union share joint responsibility for the defense of the area. Most TSFs from this area will be one of 4 things: an American exported F-14 (2nd Gen), an American exported F-15 (2nd Gen), a French made Mirage III (1st Gen), or early model Phantoms (1st Gen). There's a large group of forces always on standby at the canal, forming an absolute defense line. Noteworthy is the precsence of Iranian test flight, Azriel Test Flight, a prolific squadron using modified F-14x Super Tomcats, often patroling north of the Tigris-Euphrates river systems. On reserve out of Cairo, Egypt is the African Union's Duma Flight, equiped with Mirage 2000s.
