Maritime tolls from Blackwater Bay. Foreign tribute or Valyrian trade holdovers. Dragons are costly. Dragonstone is a volcanic fortress. And Targaryens invest heavily in their own mystique. Their true strength came from dragons, not numbers. With just Balerion, Vhagar, and Meraxes, Aegon conquered Westeros with fewer soldiers than many regional lords.
