Moat Cailin is an ancient stronghold of the First Men, located on the northern edge of the great swamp known as the Neck. Once a formidable fortress with twenty towers and a grand basalt wall, it now lies in ruins, with only three towers remaining. The site commands the causeway, a vital route through the swamps, and serves as a natural choke point against invasions. The towers are covered in moss and ghostskin, and the area is fraught with dangers, including a moat filled with lizard-lions.
The ruins of Moat Cailin are marked by scattered blocks of black basalt, half-sunken in the ground. The remaining towers are draped in green moss, with the Children's Tower being tall and slender, the Gatehouse Tower standing squat and wide, and the Drunkard's Tower leaning precariously. The landscape is dominated by chest-deep water and treacherous bogs.
