Jax Mercer
Level 5 Human Brute -
Jax Mercer is The Hyperion Circle’s enforcer, a towering brute of muscle and brutality who serves as Lucian Grayson’s personal attack dog. He is dumb, violent, and absolutely loyal, following orders with unquestioning obedience—so long as they come from Lucian. Sadistic and bloodthirsty, Jax revels in combat, seeing it as the only thing he truly understands. Though his mind is simple, he has his own rigid code: promises are sacred, and anyone who breaks their word deserves whatever punishment he deems necessary. With an explosive temper and no patience for intellectual debates, Jax settles disputes the only way he knows how—through raw, merciless violence.

appearance
Jax is built like a pre-war war machine—massive, thickly muscled, and intimidating in every possible way. His broad shoulders and hulking frame make him look more like a super mutant than a vault dweller, and his sheer size makes most people think twice before crossing him. His shaved head only adds to his menacing presence, revealing a skull covered in faint scars—souvenirs from countless fights.
His face is rough and brutish, with a square jaw, heavy brow, and deep-set eyes that gleam with a savage, almost animalistic hunger for violence. His knuckles are often bruised or bloodied, and his vault-issued jumpsuit barely contains his muscular bulk. The sleeves are torn off, exposing his brawny arms, and his Pip-Boy barely fits around his thick wrist, the screen often cracked from repeated impacts. His voice is deep and gravelly, slurred with a thick, dumbed-down cadence that makes his lack of intelligence obvious the moment he opens his mouth.
personality
Jax is a wrecking ball of pure aggression, a man who lives to fight because it’s the only thing he understands. He lacks patience, reason, and any capacity for deep thought, making him quick to lash out at anyone who makes him feel stupid. If he can’t win an argument with words—and he never can—he’ll win with his fists.
He follows orders without question, but only from Lucian. Anyone else trying to boss him around is likely to get their skull caved in. His loyalty is unwavering, not because of any deep emotional connection, but because Lucian promised him something, and Jax believes in keeping promises above all else.
Despite his brutal nature, Jax does have a personal code. If someone makes a promise, they damn well better keep it. Liars and oath-breakers infuriate him, and he has no problem beating them half to death to prove a point. He may be dumb, but in his mind, honor matters—even if his version of honor is twisted by his own simplistic worldview.
Jax doesn’t dream of a future beyond fighting. He doesn’t care about power, knowledge, or status. He exists for the next brawl, the next person stupid enough to challenge him. And when his time for The Crucible comes, he believes Lucian will give him the answers. Because that was the deal. And Jax always makes sure deals are kept.
backstory
Jax was never meant to be in Vault 27. His parents, both brilliant engineers, secured their place in the vault through their own intellect, but their son was a disappointment—big, strong, and hopelessly dumb. From an early age, Jax struggled with the vault’s intense academic expectations, failing every intellectual test placed before him. He quickly learned that words and ideas were useless to him—what mattered was strength.
As he grew older, Jax became known for one thing: his fists. He settled disputes through brute force, gaining a reputation as a violent, dim-witted brute who would smash first and ask questions never. When The Hyperion Circle took notice of his raw power, Lucian Grayson saw potential. He didn’t need Jax to be smart—he just needed him to be loyal.
Lucian gave Jax a place in The Hyperion Circle, a purpose, and—most importantly—orders. Jax found peace in that. He didn’t have to think; he just had to follow. Lucian promised him that when his time for The Crucible came, he would give Jax the answers, ensuring his survival. That promise became Jax’s entire reason for existing. He would do whatever Lucian commanded, no matter how brutal, because he believed, with absolute certainty, that Lucian would keep his word.
