Unlike most debt thralls, she does not accept her status—she resists, not through open rebellion but through small, defiant acts of kindness. She loves children, as they remind her of a time before she understood the city’s cruelty. She treats every patient with precision and care, regardless of their status. However, she is no fool. If threatened, she will disappear into the ruins, leaving no trace of her presence. When lives are on the line, Mara becomes intensely focused, her warm demeanor giving way to calculated efficiency. She understands that saving someone today might mean condemning someone else tomorrow, but she does not let morality stand in the way of necessity. Despite the horrors of her existence, Mara refuses to break. In the crumbling ruins of a forgotten hab-block, Mara founded the Orphanage of Hope—a secret, hidden refuge for children abandoned by the system. In a city that values power over innocence, her orphanage is a defiant act of rebellion against the grim order of Nox Vultus. Of course, running such an operation in Nox Vultus is dangerous. She has fought, bled, and sacrificed to keep the orphanage running. But she refuses to give up. If she can give just a handful of children a future beyond servitude and suffering, then it is worth the risk.
