The Unification War
The Beginning
In the year 1999 Vernon Loxley, The president of what would eventually become Sector A, called a meeting of all the world's leaders. The leaders of approximately 100 countries arrived at this meeting where Loxley unveiled a plan to unify all countries in the world into a single "United Republic". After much negotiation, the new United Republic was formed, and Loxley was voted in as the first Supreme Minister with a 2/3rds vote. The other 100 or so countries that didn't attend this summit opposed this move - branding Loxley as a power-hungry maniac - and banded together as the Freedom Alliance to wage war against the new United Republic.
The War
While both sides were initially evenly matched, the Freedom Alliance was disadvantaged by their unwillingness to fight outside of their own territory. Leading to slow gains by the United Republic. The war's progress significantly changed however when a Laurasian conglomerate called M-Corp (led by Loxley's close friend Tarnic Miliken) entered the war on the United Republic's side. M-Corp's advanced technology and their private security group M-Division single-handedly won the war, conquering every country they entered overnight. With losses piling up and fear setting in, the Freedom Alliance had no choice but to surrender.
The Aftermath
After the war was over, Alliance territory was consolidated and then divided into the new sector system. Some of the more reasonable leaders of the Alliance were made Prime Ministers of those sectors. After the dust settled the world had now been divided into 61 sectors: 35 in Laurasia and 26 in Gondwana. The new fully integrated planetary government renamed itself as the "United World" government with Supreme Minister Vernon Loxley at its head.
